Karāpiro dam road closure

The closure of the Karāpiro dam road this week is for the safety of contractors who are doing some critical maintenance on the intake screen cleaner. This vital piece of kit removes debris from the water where it is taken in to the power station, to keep the water flowing through our turbines.

Mercury Energy says it tries hard to schedule works outside of local events and lets the community know in advance, by putting it out on the radio and in local papers and signage at the dam roadway entrance.

The company also puts up signage on the morning of the road closures in places that have been suggested or confirmed by the local community.
