Cambridge Pool season opening delayed

The summer opening of the Cambridge Pool has been delayed.

Due to the recent excessive wet weather, the 2017 – 2018 seasonal opening of the Cambridge Pool has been delayed.

GoWaipa chief executive, Matthew Horne, said the current water table levels are too high to allow the pool to be prepared for the upcoming season, which was scheduled to open on Saturday October 21.

“With the water table levels so high the risk to empty the pool is too great and could damage the integrity of the pool structure which may result in no facility at all.”  It is understood that the pool would cave in due to outside pressure if it was drained, and the surrounding ground will have to dry out before the pool can be prepared for the next swimming season.

“GoWaipa will continue to monitor the water table levels and are committed to having the facility operational at the first available opportunity.

Updates will be posted via our GoWaipa website and Facebook page on progress and once a new opening date is confirmed,” Mr Horne said.
